Airtel 3G services in eastern UP

Private GSM operator Bharti Airtel today launched its third Generation (3G) services in Uttar Pradesh (East) circle.

In the first phase, 3G services have been launched in Lucknow and Kanpur. Airtel has set up 20 experience zones for people to test the new service. In another 15 days, the telecom major intends to cover ! 8-10 major towns.

Airtel had already launched its 3G services in UP (West) circle, which covers Uttarakhand as well.

Vodafone has recently announced the launch of its NetCruise mobile broadband services in Pune (Maharashtra), Mysore (Karnataka), Jaipur (Rajasthan) and Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) as part of a pilot project. Netcruise Service is the result of a partnership between Vodafone and Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited (SSTL), where the mobile broadband data card is being offered by MTS through a brand franchise with Mobile Co! mmerce Solutions Limited (MCSL). Saudi Arabia bans iPhones and Galaxy ‘tablets’ at security organizations

The Saudi interior ministry has issued a ban on the use of iPhones and Galaxy ‘tablets’ at its security institutions. The ban, imposed to protect these institutions, will take effect Saturday.

The cited security concern is that these high-tech telecommunication gadgets are easily infiltrated via hacking, the London-based Asharq Al Awsat reported on Friday.

Taken from the GCF Press Release, that announced that 400 different 3GPP compliant mobile phones, wireless modems and connected devices from more than 35 manufacturers achieved GCF certification in 2010…

The Global Certification Forum (GCF) announced the extension of GCF Certification to TD-LTE mobile devices that operate in the 2570-2620 MHz band.

Designated E-UTRA Band 38 by 3GPP, the 2570-2620 MHz band has been allocated for TD-LTE in a number of important markets, most notably China.

India is all set to move on from 3G to 4G, technically known as Long Term Evolution in mobile broadband, leading industry and technology experts said at LTE India 2011 international conference organised by Bharat Exhibitions today.

BSNL links fund allocations to revenue targets

The management of cash-strapped Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd has decided to link future fund allocations for all 24 circles to the realisation of specific revenue targets in financial year 2011-12.

In an internal communication, BSNL chairman & managing director RK Upadhayay has directed all circle heads to go on a revenue maximisation drive, failing which fund allocations will stand frozen. Each circle head has been told to expand business on a war-footing and achieve a minimum 25% revenue growth this fiscal.

French telecoms regulator opens 4G bidding

France`s telecoms regulator ARCEP  opened the bidding process for fourth-generation ( 4G )) mobile licenses on Wednesday.

ARCEP has set deadlines for submitting applications on Sept. 15 for the 2.6 gigahertz band and Dec. 15 for the 800 megahertz band, the regulator said in a statement.

It will be allocating 2.6 GHz-band spectrum in autumn 2011 and 800 MHz-band spectrum in early 2012

Cellular service provider-Vodafone Essar today announced the roll-out of its 3G services in Karnal and Kurukshetra. Vodafone 3G mobile and data services will offer its customers a faster, smarter and better mobile experience with internet access at speeds up to 21.1 Mbps at their finger tips.

Airtel commences 3G services in J&K

Telecom major Bharti Airtel on Wednesday commenced 3G services in Jammu and Kashmir , starting with the summer capital Srinagar.
