NTT Com Launches Own Fiber-optic Network in Indonesia

TOKYO, JAPAN – NTT Communications Corporations (NTT Com) announced that subsidiary PT. NTT Indonesia today launched its own fiber-optic network service in the East Jakarta Industrial Park near Jakarta (EJIP Industrial Park Plot 3A, Cikarang Selatan, Bekasi 17550). Aircel conducts world`s first multi-mode trials with Huawei

Aircel and Huawei have jointly conducted trials that will enable subscribers to use the same device across three different networks – GSM, 3G and Long Term Evolution- Time Division Duplex (LTE-TDD).

This is the world`s first GSM/UMTS/LTE-TDD trial. The trial was based on a device based on Qualcomm Incorporated`s multimode chipset and Huawei`s convergent systems. The success of this trial is a key milestone for the development of LTE-TDD ecosystem.

Close on the heels of Bharti Airtel chief Sunil Mittal foregoing any pay hike this fiscal, the company on Wednesday said all its corporate directors and CEOs have volunteered for no salary hike in 2011-12.

“This is in line with the company`s efforts to drive cost efficiencies,” the telecom giant said in a statement.

Bharti Airtel Ltd, India`s top mobile phone carrier, on Wednesday reported a 28 percent fall in profit for the quarter ended June 30, hit by interest costs related to its purchase of African operations, costs of its new third-generation network in India and higher tax outgo.

The Government on Wednesday said two Anil Ambani companies have been fined a total of Rs 5.49 crore for shutting down rural telephone services during 2010-11 in violation of the USOF agreement.

“Reliance Communications Ltd and Reliance Telecom Ltd have been fined Rs 4.42 crore and Rs 1.06 crore respectively, for shutting down rural telephony services during 2010-11,” Minister of State for Communications and IT Milind Deora told the Lok Sabha in a written reply.

Telcos today have turned to enterprise services in a big way. While Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communications were traditionally offering these services, Vodafone India and Tata Teleservices (TTSL) have also ventured into this unit with high decibel promotions.

The enterprise business provides end-to-end telecom solutions using wireless, wireline, voice and data to corporate customers.

Bharti takes tower sharing to Africa

Bharti Airtel, which acquired Zain Telecom’s assets in 16 African countries last year, has started discussions with all its key competitors on the continent – including MTN, Vodacom, Orange, Millicom and Etisalat – for sharing tower infrastructure and back-end optic fibre networks.
