Tata Teleservices to merge CDMA & GSM divisions, cut jobs

The telecom unit of theTata Group has decided to combine two businesses that provide mobile services using different technologies, raising fears of job cuts in an industry marked by low tariffs and falling profits.

In a circular issued on Sunday, Tata Teleservices announced in what it described as the “unification” of two divisions offering services based onCDMA and GSM, two rival technologies.

Tata DoCoMo launches Net device that works across 3 technologies

Tata DoCoMo has launched an Internet access device that allows subscribers to jump between three different technologies.

With this portable device, customers can stay connected on a 3G network across nine circles where Tata DoCoMo had won spectrum and in other areas the same device can be used to connect to Tata`s CDMA-based data network or Wi-Fi wherever available.

The device, supplied by ZTE, also allows multiple users to connect to the Internet at the same time.
