British Telecom set to exit Chennai company Accel

British Telecom is set to exit Accel Frontline Ltd, a Chennai-based IT company, in which it has 51 per cent stake. It is reliably learnt that the formal bye-bye deal will happen in a few days.

The British telecommunications major ended up with 51 per cent (1.15 crore shares) in the Rs 330-crore Chennai-based IT company in May 2007, when it took over Accel Frontline`s erstwhile partner, Frontline Technologies of Singapore.

Everything Everywhere Ltd today announced the appointment of Olaf Swantee as Chief Executive Officer as of 1st September 2011. He will replace Tom Alexander who has resigned for personal reasons and to pursue other interests. Tom will step down from his post as CEO on 31st August 2011, but will continue to advise the company, and support Olaf in the transition, until the end of the year.

Huawei and ZTE in two-way patent spat

On Thursday, Huawei announced it had filed lawsuits against fellow Chinese company ZTE in three European countries for patent and trademark infringement.Huawei chose Europe to file its complaints, which focus on LTE and, specifically, on mobile broadband data cards – ironically an area where the European Commission has been probing the firms after accusations of dumping. UK gears up for 4G spectrum auctions in 2012

UK regulator Ofcom has announced plans for the largest ever single auction of additional spectrum for mobile services in the UK, equivalent to three quarters of the mobile spectrum in use today and 80% more than the 3G auction which took place in 2000.

European mobile ARPU falls 20%

European mobile data use has so far failed to compensate for the sharp decline in mobile voice revenue, according to new Wireless Intelligence research. A new study reveals that mobile ARPU across the 27 European Union (EU27) countries has fallen by 20 percent over the last three years, dropping from EUR25 in 2007 to EUR20 in 2010 on average (see chart). BT Group plc (BT.L) today announces its results for the third quarter and nine months to 31 December 2010.

Key points for the third quarter:

  • Revenue of £5,038m, down 3%
  • EBITDA1 of £1,484m, up 7%
  • Profit before tax1 of £531m, up 30% (after specific items, up 111%)

BT first telco company to receive Spanish “Equality in Business†award

Telefonica Ranks as Top German Display Advertiser in Q3 2010

Telefonica Europe, which owns 02 and Alice, was the top online display advertiser in Q3 2010 with nearly 3.4 billion impressions, representing 1.8 percent of all display ad impressions during the quarter. Deutsche Telekom AG held the second position with also nearly 3.4 billion (1.8 percent share), followed by 1&1 Internet AG with 2.6 billion (1.4 percent) and eBay with 1.7 billion (0.9 percent), a report from comscore.
