Diameter is an AAA (Authentication, Authorization and Accounting) protocol initially developed by IETF for the applications such as network access and IP mobility. The telecom unit of theTata Group has decided to combine two businesses that provide mobile services using different technologies, raising fears of job cuts in an industry marked by low tariffs and falling profits.

In a circular issued on Sunday, Tata Teleservices announced in what it described as the “unification” of two divisions offering services based onCDMA and GSM, two rival technologies.

 After dilly-dallying for a long time, the government is likely to allow sharing of spectrum among telecom operators, a move that would help overcome the shortage of spectrum that has affected the quality of mobile services badly.

Bharti takes tower sharing to Africa

Bharti Airtel, which acquired Zain Telecom’s assets in 16 African countries last year, has started discussions with all its key competitors on the continent – including MTN, Vodacom, Orange, Millicom and Etisalat – for sharing tower infrastructure and back-end optic fibre networks. Vodafone Essar launches 3G services in Karnal, Kurukshetra

Cellular service provider-Vodafone Essar today announced the roll-out of its 3G services in Karnal and Kurukshetra. Vodafone 3G mobile and data services will offer its customers a faster, smarter and better mobile experience with internet access at speeds up to 21.1 Mbps at their finger tips.

Airtel commences 3G services in J&K

Telecom major Bharti Airtel on Wednesday commenced 3G services in Jammu and Kashmir , starting with the summer capital Srinagar.
