Taken from the GCF Press Release, that announced that 400 different 3GPP compliant mobile phones, wireless modems and connected devices from more than 35 manufacturers achieved GCF certification in 2010…

The Global Certification Forum (GCF) announced the extension of GCF Certification to TD-LTE mobile devices that operate in the 2570-2620 MHz band.

Designated E-UTRA Band 38 by 3GPP, the 2570-2620 MHz band has been allocated for TD-LTE in a number of important markets, most notably China.

The addition of this first TD-LTE  [read more →]

BEAM DIVISION MULTIPLE ACCESS (BDMA) FOR 5G

Apr 4, 2011 at 12:19 am in 5G by Imthiyaz Ali · 5 Comments »

The goal of mobile communication systems is to provide improved and flexible services to a larger number of mobile users at lower costs. This objective results in a big challenge for the wireless technology that is increasing system capacity and quality within the limited available frequency spectrum. The challenge in mobile communication system is to communicate using limited frequency and time. In order to achieve this target multiple access technique is required. There are Frequency Division Multiple Access  [read more →]

Standards, Services and Patents

Standards

Standards contribute to a harmonized market for telecommunications networks and services. Not all network operators embrace these benefits like the old BELL system but, standards are here anyway and in some cases forced by law:

Benefits

SS7 Network Fraud: Storm Warning

Mobile phone networks face rising levels of fraud and network hacking. Various developments in the industry mean that it is now easier than ever for fraudsters to gain access to the network. Robin Burton argues that, unless operators implement on-line, real-time and automatic systems to identify and eliminate new and evolving forms of fraud and network attack, the consequences may be very serious.

International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI)

Oct 24, 2010 at 12:23 pm in GSM by karthik · 1 Comment »

International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI)

The subscriber is identified by an identity number called the International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI).This number identifies the MS(Mobile Station) subscriber.

The International Mobile Subscriber Identity(IMSI) is embodied in the SIM of the mobile equipment. It is provided by the MS anytime it accesses the network. It is only transmitted over the air during initialization.

Since the air interface is vulnerable to fraudulent access, it is necessary to determine if  [read more →]

Basics of Steering of Roaming

Steering-of-Roaming

Why SoR Required?

Roaming contributes a substantial portion of a mobile operator’s revenue. Typically, a home network has very little control over the selection of networks for out-roamers. Many out-roamers continue to register on visited networks which are not preferred by HPLMN, making it difficult to control roaming costs and ensure quality of service.

A picture will speak 1000 words; I hope you understood the problem.

So, HPLMN required some sort of legal and technical solution which solves their problem and providing  [read more →]

Release codes are usually used to identify and debug any events occurring in ISUP signaling. Every event in ISUP signaling generates a release code number. Even for a normal ISUP call a release code is generated

Basic SS7

Why SS7?

Public Telephone Networks(PTNs) typically are composed of a signaling and transport network. The signaling network controls the setup and message transfer of cells, as well as advanced features such as calling card and toll-free service. The signaling network controls the voice and data circuts in transport network. The primary signaling protocol in use today is signaling systems 7(SS7), which interconnects networks such as SSP, SCP

The SS7 architecture comprises three signaling points: services switching points(SSPs), signal transfer Points (STPs)  [read more →]
