India MNP requests crossed 38 lakh by the end of February

The Telecoms Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has revealed that more than 38.33 lakh subscribers have opted to change their provider while keeping the same number since the introduction of mobile number portability (MNP).

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India released the “Indian Telecom Services Performance Indicator Report” for the Quarter ending September 2010.

Summary of the Report

  • The number of telephone subscribers in India increased to 723.28 million at the end of Sep-10
  • Subscription in Urban Areas grew to 487.07 million at the end of Sep-10
  • Wireline subscriber base further declined to 35.57 million at the end of Sep-10
  • Internet subscribers increased to 17.90 million at the end of Sep-10

Twitter usage grew 310%, Facebook 200% and YouTube 123%, says six-month study of mobile broadband traffic.

  • Total Telephone subscriber base reaches 688.38 Million
  • Wireless subscription reaches 652.42 Million
  • Wireline subscription declines to 35.96
  • 16.92 Million new additions in wireless
  • Overall Tele-density reaches 58.17
  • Broadband subscription is 9.77 million

According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai), the number of telephone subscribers in India increased to 688.38 Million at the end of July 2010 from 671.69 Million in June-2010, thereby registering a growth rate of 2.49%. With this, the overall Tele-density in India reaches 58.17
