Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) Spectrum Auction – Final Result

The Government has approved the results of the Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) Spectrum Auction. The e-auction was conducted over 16 days (from 24th May, 2010 to 11th June, 2010) and involved 117 rounds of bidding across 22 service areas. The Indian Government has raised Rs. 38,543.31 crores from the auction, short of the estimated Rs. 40,000 crore. The two circles -  Delhi and Mumbai together accounted for 35.29% of the total money raised, while the top five circles – Delhi, Mumbai, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh account for 71.65% of the total bids.

Winner Operators:

1. Infotel Broadband Services Private Limited – Pan India (All 22 Circles)
2. Aircel limited – 8 Circles
3. Tikona Digital networks private limited – 5 Circles
4. Bharti Airtel limited – 4 Circles
5. Qualcomm Incorporated – 4 Circles
6. Augere (Mauritius) Limited – 1 Circles

Besides, the state owned telecom operators BSNL and MTNL combined also having pan India license (BSNL : 20 & MTNL : 2) for WBA.
